FAQs

  • What is Cocacao?
    • It is a coconut and cacao confection.  It is technically not chocolate because it does not have a high enough level of cocoa butter in it.  It has coconut oil instead.
  • Why does it need to be refrigerated?
    • Cocacao’s main ingredient is coconut oil, which will melt at a lower temperature.
  • Where does the cacao powder come from?
    • It comes from the Dominican Republic and South America.  It is certified 100% organic.
  • What is coconut nectar?
    • It is the actual nectar of the coconut tree.  It comes from the blossom.  After gathering it is boiled down so that the water is removed.  After the water is removed it is considered coconut sugar.  We hydrate the sugar again to make it be the liquid nectar.
  • What is the glycemic index of coconut nectar?
    • It has a low glycemic index of 35 – 54.
  • Why coconut oil?
    • Coconut oil is high in MCTs, a type of fat that your body metabolizes differently than most other fats. MCTs are responsible for many of the health benefits of coconut oil.  We use organic, virgin coconut oil rather than refined versions.
  • Is there a difference between cacao and cocoa?
    • The use of cacao and cocoa is inconsistent.  Generally, cacao is considered less processed, and cocoa would be items such as Dutch processed.
